The Doctor's Review of Rayearth OVA (Dub)
Music [7/10]: Unlike the other Rayearth series, I wasn't really impressed with the majority of the background music in this OVA. It was all rather dark and depressing. But, it did have a really nice ending theme. So, overall I will give this series a 7 for music.
Plot [7/10]: The plot looses points for being so depressing, but it is still Rayearth in a fashion. Cephiro comes to Earth instead of the girls going to it. They learn about their powers while defending themselves from monsters with the help of a greatly taller Clef. A very weird little Rayearth adaptation. All of the characters are redesigned and their personalities are slighty different. Its like a mirror universe Rayearth. Not really with that idea..
Characters [6/10]: As with all OVA's the character development suffers from a lack of episodes. You are just getting to know the characters and then... its all over. Only the girls really develop any sympathy from me and that could be due in fact because I had watched and loved Rayearth's 1&2 before seeing the OVA.
Animation [6/10]: The animation style was alot darker than the other Rayearths and by that I mean the animators tended to use more black and shadowy colors. It works for this more depressing version of Rayearth, but I found that I missed the colors of the original.
Likability [5/10]: I did not really like this OVA. As I said before it was very dark and the characters weren't really onscreen enough to care about. Besides... I was sadly forced to watch the dubbed version of this anime. The other Rayearths had really good dub voice actors, but this one... they must have hired the worst voice actors in the country for this dub. It was done by another company. Maybe if the same group that had dubbed the first and second Rayearth's had gotten ahold of this anime it wouldn't have been so bad. But the bad voices were really hard to ignore.

Sailor
X's Review
of Rayearth OVA (Dub)
Music [ 5/10]: Music could have helped this Ova. I know it had some but they weren't memorable and weren't effective in adding anything to the story. I loved "All You Need is Love" by Naomi Tamura though and that's why this Ova doesn't lose all of it's music points.
Plot [5/10]: The tables are turned and Cephiro comes to the Earth instead of the other way around. This OVA is completely seperate from Magic Knight Rayearth even though it toys with a similiar idea. Part of the new plot revolves around Fuu, Hikaru, and Umi being friends already and it's there desire to remain together. That doesn't really work out for them, nu uh. The plot left a lot to be desired. It was dull, boring, and depressing.
Characters [6/10]: There were plenty of characters in the OVA and I was interested in what happened to them though I know this is due greatly because I loved Magic Knight Rayearth. The Ova doesn't give enough time to empathize with most of the characters or to learn much about them.
Animation [7/10]: The style is intriquing so it gets fairly high marks but it's so dark! The dark quality works for the Ova's plot but I prefer something with a less oppressing feeling.
Likability [4/10]: I would never watch the dub again. The voice actors and actresses were horrible. They should have gotten the cast from Magic Knight Rayearth's dub, those people could act much better. If I located a subtitled copy, I'd like to give it another shot but it was the most boring OVA I've ever seen. For just three installments it feels like it takes seven days to get through it all.
