The Doctor's Review of Pretear

Music [10/10]: A++ The music from Pretear was awesome. "White Destiny" by Yoko Ishida is the perfect opening song. It feels powerful and practically oozes magic all over when you listen to it. That is a very strong song. Well worth watching even if you would rather not see the series. "Lucky Star" by Sayuri Yoshida is the ending theme. It is a softer and slower song than "White Destiny" but still very pleasent to listen to. Even the background music works well for the series. It fits the action scenes and becomes apporatly sad when depressing things are happening.

Plot [8/10]: The plot was a combination of Snow White and magical girl anime. When a father with a young daughter marries a wealthy window with two daughters of her own the family needs to try to adjust to one another. Though the 'evil stepsister' makes life hard for Himeno and adjusting to her new 'rich' lifestyle is difficult. Life becomes even more interesting when Leafe Knights appear and tell Himeno that she is the new Pretear. They need her help to fend off the Disaster Queen and save the world. The plot was very interesting. There were so many things going on at the same time and you never could really guess what was coming next.

Characters [9/10]: The characters were all very lovable. Lady fans of the series will be enchanted by the soft and even voice Sasame and the dark handsome face of Hayate. This is definitly a girls anime. Lots of decent looking men and only one or two women. I liked all of the characters except the 'evil step-sister'.

Animation [8/10]: The animation style was great! The action scenes were very colorful. I enjoyed all the the different dresses Himeno used during the battle scenes. Great animation, very colorful!

Likability [8/10]: I loved this anime. It was fun to watch and interesting to try and figure out what would happen next. All of the characters by the end of things, I actually liked at least a little bit. Himeno's sisters, I still have a slight problem with. This anime is great fun to watch. The only down side I can thing of is the ending. The led up to the ending is pretty dark and for a time the main characters 'dissapear'. You don't know where they are or what they are doing they just leave and then come back when the action starts. I felt that they needed to not rush that section. Other than that the series is great! Magical girl fans need to watch this one.

Sailor X's Review of Pretear

Music [ 10/10]: The music all seemed appropriate and suitable for the series. I loved the opening "White Destiny". It was argueably the best song in the entire series.

Plot [9/10]: It was an interesting idea to bring two seperate fairy tales into one unified plot like Pretear accomplished. The story was still different enough that you didn't feel like you were just watching Cinderella or Snow White which was a relief. My only complaint is the story gets rushed towards the end. It needed more episodes so it could gradually get to the ending instead of the rush job that ensued. The villian is a bit of a twist so kudos for that.

Characters [10/10]: The characters were easy to like. As a result, watching the show was enhanced by the characters. The only person I could never get around to liking was Takako. I think this was because of how rushed the end felt. You never really got a chance to like her. There were quite a few times where I wanted to slap her across the face but I would have prefered getting to know her a bit better than the show ended up revealing. Himeno and Hayate's relationship was cute.

Animation [10/10]: I couldn't find any major faults in the animation. It was fluid and continuous.

Likability [10/10]: Despite the less-than-satisfactory ending I still really enjoyed watching this series. I liked getting to see the various outfits Himeno transformed into depending on which Leafe Knight she was working with at the time. Plus I just liked most of the characters. I appreciated the humor that was scattered in it as well. It's good for a watch ^__^.
