The Doctor's Review of Rozen Maiden

Music [7/10]: The music of this series, I can't say I really cared for it. I did not dislike it, except for the theme song *shudder*, but it didn't stick with me. I sit here, having just finished the series and the only song from the series I can remember is that bloody theme song...

Plot [8/10]: The plot of this anime was fairly interesting. It kind of reminded me of Chucky at first, but the whole series grew on me. The kid with the mental problems occasionally got on my nerves with his running away all the time, which I could have understood if he had had a better reason than, 'oh I failed one test, I suck'. Anyway, the good of it was the unique plot of living dolls having to fight one another to become perfect 'Alice' dolls and needing strong mediums to accomplish this task. It also helped the series in the end, with the final plot twist of Suigintou being a broken doll. It had humor and drama, always a good combination.

Characters [8/10]: The character development was decent., but the series manly focused on Jun and Shinku's personalities and I would have liked the other characters to get more air time. Don't get me wrong I like Shinku and Jun is ... ok, but Hina Ichigo rarely got to do anything but cry. Surely there is more to her than that. Jun's sister also leads a fairly boring life, basically of making food all of the time. Maybe if the series had more episodes these characters could have been better developed. I did find myself liking Shinku, Hina Ichigo, and Suisei Seki, the others I could take or leave.

Animation [10/10]: The animation style was pretty cool. I really loved the details that were put into the dresses the dolls wore. The satin shimmered and you could actually clearly see the lacing patterns in the lace Shinku wore. Yes, it was very well animated.

Likability [8/10]: I did like this series, though at first I wasn't sure that I would. Jun's constant whining grated on my nerves and his sister not kicking his butt out the door I also found irritating. But, Jun loosened up a bit with the dolls help and became almost likable. The real reason to watch this show is for the dolls. All humor comes from them. I got a kick out of seeing Shinku slap Jun around all of the time. ^_^

Sailor X's Review of Rozen Maiden

Music [ 8/10]: I can't really recall the music outside of the opening. It gets high marks for working in the series. The music never seemed awkward or out of place but it wasn't something I'd listen to outside of the episodes. As for the opening, I'm not a fan of it. The Ali Project is very recognizable, perhaps too recognizable. Their songs quite honestly all sound the same. If I hadn't already heard the Avenger soundtrack the opening might have left a better impression.

Plot [8/10]: Rozen Maiden was blessed with one of the more unique plots of it's season. I enjoyed the "living dolls" concept. When I first learned that the dolls would have to duke it out to become the perfect doll I became a bit concerned that the series would take a more depressing, serious tone. However, I was relieved when there were still those light-hearted moments scattered throughout the series. Rozen Maiden had a winning combination of drama and comedy. I really can't find any complaints about this series.

Characters [10/10]: In the beginning, I wasn't sure what to make of Jun. Shinku was the first to lure me into continuing to watch the series. Watching her order Jun around was some of the most entertaining parts of the series. Though in time I grew to like most of the characters. I felt that Suigintou could have used more airtime because I really didn't have time to form much of an opinion on that doll. I ended up really liking Shinku, Suiseiseki, Hinaichigo, and... yeah.. Jun XD. I would say the character development was fine accept for just throwing Suigintou in near the end.

Animation [10/10]: The Animation style was very nice. It wouldn't be a complete review without giving recognition to the amount of details featured on the dolls and their dresses. Some of the humans were not quite so eye-appealing but that's not a complaint, just an observation. This series gets a 10 out of 10 for sure.

Likability [10/10]: I looked forward to seeing each new episode that was released so this series also recieves a ten out of ten for likability.
